Man found fatally shot at NW Side apartment identified

Incident was called in around 4:30 a.m. in 7800 block of Woodchase Dr.

SAN ANTONIO – The Bexar County Medical Examinedr identified a man found fatally shot at a Northwest Side apartment complex Tuesday as 35-year-old John Ryan Burton.

The shooting was called in just before 4:30 a.m. at the apartment complex in the 7800 block of Woodchase Drive, which is located not far from Eckhert Road and Bandera Road.

According to police, officers responded to a call for shots fired and searched the area with a flashlight  to find one person on the sidewalk fatally shot. 

Several areas of the apartment complex were taped off and the police helicopter was seen flying overhead. Shell casings were also found in the parking lot.

Police said a witness identified which of the apartments Burton had left from. Two people were ultimately located inside the apartment and they both were taken to police headquarters for questioning, police said.

Police have not given a motive for the shooting or identified any possible suspects.
