Gov. Greg Abbott signed a bill to create an annual week of education regarding the Holocaust in public schools across Texas.
The bill was pushed by four San Antonio women and sponsored by state Sen. Jose Menendez.
The bill is meant to help more students learn about the past to prevent future genocide and combat discrimination, bullying and harassment.
Texas now joins nearly a dozen other states that made similar requirements.
The first Holocaust remembrance week will take effect in the 2019-2020 school year.
