Holmes High School student, 16, who suddenly died in Ingram Park Mall parking lot identified

SAPD officers find boy unresponsive around 12:17 p.m. Thursday

SAN ANTONIOUPDATE: The medical examiner identified the 16-year-old Holmes High School student who suddenly died in the parking lot of Ingram Park Mall as Jaiden Curtis.

Holmes High canceled band practice for Friday. It's unclear when practices will resume.

San Antonio police are investigating after a 16-year-old Holmes High School student suddenly died in the parking lot of Ingram Park Mall.

Around 12:17 p.m. Thursday, officers went to Ingram Park Mall for a report of an injured/sick person.

When they arrived, police said they found the teenage boy unresponsive in the parking lot.

Emergency medical personnel with the San Antonio Fire Department attempted to revive the teen but were unsuccessful.

Police said the boy had a preexisting heart condition and had just finished up with band practice at Holmes High earlier in the day.

Northside Independent School District officials said the teen had a physical and was cleared to participate in the band.

Holmes High canceled band practice for Friday. It's unclear when practices will resume.

NISD spokesman Barry Perez released the following statement: 

"The priority for the school community is helping their students and staff deal with this sudden and tragic loss. Additional counselors were on hand this afternoon at campus and will be available as long as necessary to support the Holmes school community."
