ACS serving animal cruelty warrant at home of habitual cat-hoarder

57 cats seized from woman's NE side home in November 2015

SAN ANTONIO – Two years after 57 cats were seized by Animal Care Services from a woman’s Northeast Side home, ACS investigators are back serving a warrant on animal cruelty charges.

ACS spokeswoman Lisa Norwood said investigators are pressing charges against the woman, D’ann Trethan, in connection with a case of cat-hoarding at her home in the 5800 block of Shadow Way.

According to the warrant, ACS investigators are taking approximately 25 cats from her home after determining that Trethan had not made needed changes to her home, including removing soiled furniture and large piles of trash bags.

In November 2015, city attorneys agreed on a settlement with Trethan and her attorney that the 57 cats she used to have in her house would stay with Animal Care Services.

Investigators at the time said her house was filled with animal waste and dangerous ammonia levels and that each cat had to be treated for ear mites.
