Audit underway for BCSO property room

Recent review covers 2014 through 2016, with some cases from 2018

SAN ANTONIO – The results aren't in yet but changes are on the way. That's what Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said about an audit of the property room at the Sheriff's Office that started last year and covers cases going back to 2014.

The scope of the most recent review covers 2014 through 2016, with some cases from 2018.

Salazar said the last time the property room had been thoroughly audited was in 1997.

“I don't think we should ever get to the point where we're waiting another 20 years for this thing to get audited,” Salazar said. “I’d like to set up a system where we're continuously auditing ourselves, I equate it to you're checking your work as you're undertaking a long assignment.”

Salazar said additional staffing has already been added. A press release said the sherof will continue to work with the auditor to refine the department's processes moving forward.
