Authorities search for third suspect at JBSA-Randolph after high-speed chase

2 men in custody

SAN ANTONIO – Investigators are searching for a third suspect after a high-speed chase involving a stolen SUV that ended up at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph.

U.S. Air Force officials said the person they are looking for is a man believed to be about 26 years old, between 5 feet 9 inches and 6 feet tall, slender and wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans.

Authorities said the man was last seen running around and would likely try to enter a house and hide.

Residents were told to lock their doors and windows because of the possibility that the man is still on the base. Two men were taken into custody earlier Saturday.

Police believe all three men were in an SUV that was stolen from Harris County and discovered by Guadalupe County deputies. The men led deputies on what they said was a five-mile chase before the stolen vehicle crashed through a fence onto the base.

Traffic started to flow back onto the base before 8 p.m., but before that, there was a line of vehicles trying to get onto the base that stretched about a quarter of a mile.

“Through the cooperation of Guadalupe Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety and security forces for Joint Base San Antonio, we have ample resources to search the base. So we are starting from corner to corner, house to house, conducting the search again,” said Col. Thomas Miner, JBSA-Randolph commander of the 502nd security and readiness group. “I do not know if the individual is on the base or off-base, but we are treating it as if the individual is on the base to ensure the safety and well-being of all the residents.”

Randolph High School is on the base and there was supposed to be a homecoming dance, but that was canceled due to security concerns.

Authorities said the man they are looking for should be considered armed and dangerous.
