Officers in Bexar County will be cracking down on drunk drivers starting this week, using technology to help them nab offenders.
The new technology approved Tuesday in Bexar County will monitor repeat offenders in several ways, such as with GPS and ankle bracelets that test the amount of alcohol in a person's sweat.
Former bar employee, Justin Kelly said one night after work he was pulled over after having a few too many. Because of a previous conviction, Kelly got hit with a stiff penalty. Even still, he said he's on board with the new measures.
"[The new measures will] definitely make you think twice before drinking and driving," he said.
Defense attorney Jamie Balagia, also known as the DWI Dude on his website, thinks monitoring is good to a point. He hopes the country doesn't take things too far.
"They need to understand they are under deeper scrutiny because of what's happened in the past," Balagia said. "We want to watch the courts, watch what they're doing to our fellow citizens, always keeping in mind our constitutional rights."
