Driver killed after Amtrak train hits SUV

Accident occurrred in 600 block of Florida St near I-37

SAN ANTONIO – A driver is dead after her vehicle was hit by a train early Tuesday morning, San Antonio police said.

The accident occurred just before 5:30 a.m. in the 600 block of Florida Street near Interstate 37. 

According to police, the 22-year-old woman was trying to go around the crossing arm in attempt to beat the train. The woman's sport utility vehicle was then crushed by the Amtrak train, police said.

The identity of the woman killed has yet to be released pending notification of next of kin.
