Fight led to deadly shooting in NE Bexar County, investigators say

Victim identified as Isiah Roper, 24

SAN ANTONIO – A fight led to a deadly shooting early Wednesday in a neighborhood just outside the Converse city limits, Bexar County sheriff's investigators said.

The victim of the shooting has been identified by the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office as Isiah Roper, 24.

Sheriff's investigators said they found Roper critically wounded around 3 a.m. Wednesday after receiving several calls from people in the area reporting they heard a loud disturbance or fight on Twincreek Farm.

"When deputies were responding to the location, they were given information by dispatch that a shooting happened at the location," said Deputy Johnny Garcia, a public information officer for the Bexar County Sherrif's Office.

Investigators found evidence along the 6800 block of Twincreek Farm, but they found Roper around the corner from there, collapsed in the street.

They said it appeared Roper was trying to run to his family's home nearby when he collapsed.

"Somewhere in between these two locations, (Roper) was shot," Garcia said. "He was found lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his upper torso."

Roper was rushed to a hospital, where he died a short time later.

Investigators at the scene said it appeared there were two people involved in the shooting and both got away.

Garcia said they planned to look at surveillance video from homes in the area for clues about the killers.
