No more overdue fines for children's books at SA libraries

Pilot program makes summer reading easier for kids

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Public Library has made bedtime stories easier for families by not fining them for overdue books and materials classified as "juvenile" or "young adult."

Families can take advantage of the pilot program through spring 2020 at which time it will be evaluated based on community feedback.

The materials classified as "juvenile" or "young adult" will not be charged overdue fines as long as they are returned by spring 2020. Those materials include: books, DVDs, CDs, magazines, audio books and more.

Fees still apply for lost or damaged items. 

The pilot program hopes to encourage teens and children to take advantange of library resources.
