Kiwanis Club of SA honors school safety officers at 77th annual School Safety Patrol Rally

SAN ANTONIO – The Kiwanis Club of San Antonio on Wednesday honored school safety patrol student volunteers along with school safety officers with the San Antonio Police Department at the 77th annual School Safety Patrol Rally.

Organizers said the school safety program teaches children about leadership, compassion, concern and how to be part of the community.

"This is where you get your councilmen, your district representatives and everybody else, because they understand about community involvement. And you start that at an early age, all the way back down to the elementary level, then as you kind of progress up, it kind of sets on and takes you to the next level,” said Rayford Shaw, president of the Kiwanis Club of SA.

Police Chief William McManus and his command staff were at the event awarding school safety patrol officers for their commitment to keeping students safe.
