Medical Examiner identifies man killed in East Side shooting on New Year’s Day

SAN ANTONIO – The Bexar County Medical Examiner has identified a man who was killed on New Year’s Day in a shooting on the East Side.

The man was identified as Abian Huel, 38, according to the ME’s Office.

The incident happened in the 4000 block of East Houston Street.

Police said they received a report of a man lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his stomach.

When officers arrived on scene, they found the man, Huel, had been shot several times. He was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Officials found the suspected shooter inside of a home in the area, who told police Huel had shown up and tried to kick the door in, which prompted the shooting.

Huel fled the scene but didn’t get far before he collapsed, according to authorities.

It’s unclear if the shooter is facing any charges at this time.
