Man shot while walking in East Side neighborhood, San Antonio police say

Incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. in 100 block of Drexel Avenue

SAN ANTONIO – A 36-year-old man walking in an East Side neighborhood was wounded in a shooting early Thursday morning, San Antonio police said.

Officers were called around 3:30 a.m. to the 100 block of Drexel Avenue, not far from South Hackberry Street and Rigsby Avenue after receiving reports of shots fired.

According to police, two men were walking when a vehicle pulled up alongside them and started firing. That’s when, police say, one of the men was struck in the legs.

SAPD the gunfire also hit two houses and a nearby vehicle. One of the houses was unoccupied and the other had two residents, police said. Neither were hurt in the shooting.

Authorities say the suspect vehicle fled following the gunfire. They have not yet been found.

The wounded man was taken by EMS to Brooke Army Medical Center, where he is listed in stable condition. His name has not been released.

SAPD also did not give a motive for the shooting. The investigation is ongoing, police said.
