Authorities ID motorcyclist fatally struck while riding on Highway 281 on North Side

The accident happened on the NB lanes early Saturday

SAN ANTONIO – A motorcyclist was killed on Saturday morning when his bike was hit from behind by an SUV, according to San Antonio police.

The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office identified him as Salvador Tirado, 45, of Pipe Creek, a town in Bandera County.

The accident happened just before 5:30 a.m. on Highway 281 North and Bitters Road.

Police said the motorcyclist was traveling northbound on the highway when a Honda Element came up from behind him and hit his bike.

Evidence at the scene indicated that the front left side of the Element struck the right side of the motorcycle, causing Tirado to be ejected from the bike, police said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Element spun out and came to a rest against a concrete barrier, officers said.

The female driver of the Element told police that it appeared the motorcyclist slowed down or was stalled in the middle of the highway, according to SAPD. She did not appear to be intoxicated, and at this point, she is not facing any charges, police said.

The northbound lanes were closed for hours as investigators processed the scene, but they have since reopened.
