SEGUIN, Texas – A woman is dead and a man was injured after a shooting Monday afternoon in Seguin, police said.
Officers were called to a park in the 600 block of North Vaughan Avenue after someone reported hearing gunshots around 2:30 p.m. Monday.
Police found a 19-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman with gunshot wounds at the scene.
Seguin PD said the woman, identified as Maekalyn Ann Marie Smith, was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was taken to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Officers also investigated a second shooting in the 1300 block of Mockingbird Lane. No injuries were reported, but gunfire struck a home, police said. Officers believe both scenes are related.
Seguin police said officers have responded to multiple calls for shots fired over the last two weeks throughout the city. They said security footage and witnesses helped lead them to the identities of the suspects and their vehicles. The investigation found that two groups of people between the ages of 16 and 20 were at odds for unknown reasons.
Seguin PD said it is still working to locate every suspect involved.
Officials do not believe parks are being targeted, but the individuals involved in Monday’s shooting were at the park at the time.
Police will increase patrols at all parks.
