Teen accused in series of armed robberies in downtown San Antonio area, records show

Affidavit: Suspect pawned guitar that was stolen at gunpoint

SAN ANTONIO – A 19-year-old man was arrested in connection with a series of recent armed robberies across the downtown San Antonio area, records show.

Eric Dewayne Caufield was charged with aggravated robbery and booked into the Bexar County Jail on Tuesday, according to jail records.

An arrest warrant affidavit states that in the latest incident, a man was robbed while waiting for food delivery at 1 a.m. Thursday in the 100 block of Lexington Ave., near the San Antonio River.

The suspect and two other assailants approached the victim in a white Nissan Altima, the affidavit states. Caufield pointed a gun at the man and demanded his belongings, and they left with his cell phone and wallet that contained $100 bills, according to investigators.

The victim’s cell phone pinged at a gas station on the Northeast Side, where an officer discovered that individuals were trying to break $100 bills.

The individuals at the gas station matched the description of the suspects in the robbery, based on surveillance footage, police said.

The affidavit states that the same suspect and vehicle descriptions were given in five robbery cases spanning from March 22 through April 7 in the downtown area.

In one of those cases, a guitar was stolen at gunpoint and later pawned on March 24. The person who pawned the guitar was identified as Caufield, the affidavit states.

His bond was set at $75,000, records show. At this time it is unclear if he will face additional charges relating to the alleged robberies.
