Man runs off even after Bexar County deputy uses Taser weapon on him

Suspect still may have prongs in his back, according to BCSO

SAN ANTONIO – The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office says the shock from a Taser weapon had little effect on a man who had been fighting with a deputy early Thursday morning.

That man still managed to run away, most likely with the prongs from the weapon still in his back, according to a sergeant at the scene.

The sergeant said the deputy was answering a call after 7:30 am. about a suspicious person outside a home in the 6800 block of Blue Lake Drive.

A report indicated that the man was doing drugs in his car as the deputy approached him, then put up a fight when he tried to arrest him.

The sergeant said the man, at one point, attempted to get inside the home, then ran to the backyard where the deputy shocked him with the Taser.

He said somehow, the suspect was able to break the wires on the Taser and run to his car, most likely with the prongs from the weapon still in his back.

The deputy was hit in the head during the struggle and suffered a cut to the back of his head.

Paramedics examined him at the scene, but he later went to a hospital.

The suspect was able to get away.

The sergeant said because of heavy morning traffic and school zones in the area, they decided not to pursue him.

However, investigators do know the name of the suspect and plan to charge him with evading arrest and assaulting a peace officer when he is caught.
