Man hospitalized after being shot in face on city’s West Side, police say

Incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. in 700 block of South San Bernardo Avenue

SAN ANTONIO – A man in his 40s was taken to an area hospital after being shot on the city’s West Side early Thursday morning, according to San Antonio police.

Officers were called around 2:45 a.m. to the 700 block of South San Bernardo Avenue, not far from South General McMullen and Castroville Road after receiving word of a shooting.

According to police, officers arrived to find a man with a gunshot wound to the jaw. He was taken by EMS to University Hospital, where he is expected to recover.

Police said they found roughly 32 shell casings from two different guns in the street, in front of what appears to be some type of shelter on a lot. The victim was sleeping in the shelter when the shots were fired, police said.

SAPD there are no witnesses and that they don’t have any suspect information. Officers are now checking the houses around the block to make sure no one else was injured.

The San Antonio Police Department, the San Antonio Fire Department and EMS all answered the call.

The investigation is ongoing, police said.
