SAFD spokesperson Woody Woodward said the fire started outside, at the back of the building. He said investigators are calling the cause “undetermined” because they do not know how it started at this time.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, motel guests had already evacuated the building.

No one was inside the building when firefighters searched it, and no injuries were reported. As of 8 a.m., 30 units were responding to the scene.

KSAT has a crew at the scene. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
