Early-morning fire damages abandoned structure just north of downtown

Fire was called in just before 3:30 a.m. in 100 block of East Quincy Street

SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio fire investigators are trying to figure out why a fire started again at an abandoned building just north of downtown early Thursday morning.

The fire was called in just before 3:30 a.m. at a building in the 100 block of East Quincy Street, not far from North Main Avenue and Interstate 35.

Firefighters said when they arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from the abandoned structure. The fire was contained to the inside corner of the building and was quickly put out, fire officials said.

Authorities say firefighters have been called to the building at least three times in the last few years. They had to force their way into the building.

The SAFD could not say exactly why the fire happened. The cause is under investigation.

According to the San Antonio Fire Department website, as many as 17 units were called to the fire.

No injuries were reported.
