2 people wounded in overnight shootout in front of Jack in the Box restaurant, SAPD says

Incident occurred around 12:45 a.m. in 3800 block of South Zarzamora Street

SAN ANTONIO – Two people were wounded after a shootout erupted outside a Southwest Side restaurant early Thursday morning, according to San Antonio police.

The shooting happened around 12:45 a.m. in the 3800 block of South Zarzamora Street, not far from Nogalitos Street and West Malone Avenue.

According to police, a man who had gotten off at a bus stop had gotten into an altercation with two others who were in a vehicle in front of a Jack in the Box restaurant. That’s when, police say, at some point, both sides pulled out guns and started firing.

Police said the driver of the vehicle took his passenger who was struck in the neck to Hildago Street and South Hamilton street, where he then called for help. The other man ran to a nearby hotel next door, after he was hit in the back by the gunfire, police said.

A preliminary police report states the man later returned asking for EMS and stated that he was minding his own business when an unknown person shot at him for no reason.

SAPD says both sides claim the other started firing first. The wounded men were taken by ambulance to Brooke Army Medical Center, with both listed in “stable” condition.

SAPD could not say exactly what the altercation was about.

The San Antonio Police Department, the San Antonio Fire Department and EMS all responded to the call.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, police said.
