Murder investigation underway after man found dead during welfare check, Del Rio PD says

DEL RIO, Texas – Del Rio police said it is investigating what caused a 72-year-old man’s death earlier this week.

A concerned citizen arrived at a Del Rio police station just after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday and requested a welfare check on their relative.

Del Rio officers then responded to the citizen’s relative’s home in the 1100 block of Avenue K near U.S. Highway 90.

Upon arrival at the home, officers said they could not make contact with the man, so they entered the home by force.

When officers found him, they said that he was lying on the ground with multiple injuries to his face and body.

Del Rio police identified the man as 72 years old but has yet to identify him.

Authorities said their investigation is ongoing.
