BEXAR COUNTY, Texas – A San Antonio Park Police officer’s family violence charge was dismissed in mid-July — less than three months after he was arrested by Bexar County sheriff’s deputies.
Rolando Lopez Jr., 36, was originally taken into custody while off-duty April 28 and accused of injury assault to a family member. The charge was considered a Class A misdemeanor.

Lopez was released on bond approximately eight hours after the arrest, jail records show.
According to a Bexar County Sheriff’s Office report obtained by KSAT one day after the arrest, deputies responded to a domestic violence incident involving Lopez and a woman in the 4700 block of Sahara Valleys, which is located near the Interstate 37-Loop 410 interchange.
The woman told deputies she and Lopez were arguing in a vehicle stopped at a traffic light when Lopez allegedly hit her in her face. She called 911 shortly after.
Why the case was dismissed
Bexar County court records show Lopez’s family violence charge was officially dismissed July 17.
In a Monday statement to KSAT, a Bexar County District Attorney’s Office spokesperson said the case was closed “at the request of the victim (complainant), who chose not to proceed with the charges.”
“Without her testimony, we (the DA’s office) were unable to move forward with prosecution,” the spokesperson continued.
When SAPD announced the April arrest, the department said Lopez, a eight-year veteran of San Antonio Park Police, was placed on administrative duty while it conducted “an administrative investigation.”
KSAT asked SAPD for an update Monday on Lopez’s current status with the department — whether or not he remains on administrative duty, was reinstated to his typical park police duties or if he was experiencing a different fate. This story will be updated with the department’s response.
Lopez was the fourth SAPD officer arrested this year, according to a KSAT Investigates analysis.
