SAN ANTONIO - One person is police custody after authorities say he stole a fire commander's pickup truck and led officers on a high-speed vehicle chase early Thursday morning.

The suspect stole the city vehicle around 8:30 a.m. as the F-150 was running near St. Mary's and Houston Street while fire personnel were parked outside a Starbucks coffee shop on a medical call.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said the suspect drove the vehicle around downtown damaging multiple vehicles and property before sideswiping an 18-wheeler.

The chase went on for nearly an hour before finally stalling out near Interstate 35 and Loop 1604. The suspect also hit a charter bus, police say.

McManus said there were no reports of injuries at either scene during the incident. He said the suspect resisted arrest and had several outstanding robbery warrants.

Police did not release the name or age of the man arrested. The investigation is ongoing.

McManus did say that police are processing several scenes involved and that traffic may suffer in those areas as a result.
