Police: Man fatally shot during argument on South Side

Victim identified as Ray Herrera, 47, by Medical Examiner's Office

SAN ANTONIO – A 47-year-old man was shot and killed during an argument on the city's South Side Wednesday night, San Antonio police said.

The shooting was reported at a home in the 1200 block of West Amber Street around 7 p.m. The Bexar County Medical Examiner's office has identified the victim as Ray Herrera.

Police said Herrera and his girlfriend were arguing and when the couple’s fight worsened the girlfriend’s 26-year-old daughter pulled out a gun from a safe to try and separate them.

Herrera approached the daughter and that's when she fired the gun, hitting him in the stomach, police said.

Herrera was taken to San Antonio Military Medical Center where he later died. 

At this time it is not known if any charges will be filed against the shooter.
