The front portion of the Tacoma was submerged in the sinkhole, and water started to fill the cab, but the officer opened a window and safely escaped.
The officer is OK, officials said.
The pickup truck is a total loss.
The sinkhole was created from a water main break that San Antonio Water System workers had been searching for.
