SAFD getting new firetrucks

SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Fire Department is getting $18 million in new fire trucks.

The City Council approved the purchase Thursday.

The purchase will be made to help replace the department’s aging fleet. Over the next two years, the city will buy 13 replacement trucks and add two trucks.

The money will come from multiple funding sources.

A little over $2 million for the two additional trucks will come from a tax-exempt lease to purchase agreement.

More than $10 million will replace nine trucks and will come out of the fiscal year 2018 budget.

Money for the additional four replacement trucks will come out of the fiscal year 2019 budget.
