"Our desire is to give the children and people of San Antonio and South Texas the greatest zoo in the country and increase our educational and conservation impact both here and around the world,” San Antonio Zoo CEO and Executive Director Tim Morrow said.

Planned habitats include improvements to the rhino habitat, a skywalk for the jaguars, a bush trail, riverwalk, world of birds exhibit and Dante’s Quest, which appears to be interactive based on the renderings.

"Over the next 20 years we will create new large, naturalistic habitats in ways never seen before by our visitors taking advantage of current zoo spaces as well as unutilized land on our property which will be fully transformed,” Morrow said.

The upgraded rhino exhibit is slated to open in early 2019 and will feature more landscape and trees, a viewing deck, a waterfall and a mud wallow. Read more on the rhino habitat upgrade here.
