Police: Man dies after being shot by on-again, off-again girlfriend after he threatened to kill her

SAPD: Shooting in 200 block of Freiling 'could be a case of self-defense'

SAN ANTONIOUPDATE: A 48-year-old man who was shot in the chest by his on-again, off-again girlfriend has died from his injuries, San Antonio police said.

Police also said they found the woman, in her late 50s, with her tooth knocked out. They said they believe the pair got into a physical altercation.

Officials said the woman told them he was assaulting her, and she went into her bedroom for safety.

The woman, fearing further injury, found the gun she kept in her room and fired once at the man after he said he was going to kill her. 

Police took the woman into custody, but they have not said if she will face any charges.

A domestic violence incident ended Friday morning with a woman shooting her on-again, off-again boyfriend at a home on the city's Northwest Side, police said.

San Antonio police Chief William McManus said a 13-year-old boy called 911 around 10:37 a.m. to report that a man was assaulting his grandmother.

Sometime during the altercation in the 200 block of Freiling, the woman shot the man once in the upper torso, McManus said.

The man, who is in his late 40s, was taken to a hospital. His condition wasn't immediately available.

The woman, who is in her late 50s, had a front tooth knocked out, but she was otherwise OK, McManus said. The child was not injured.

McManus said the shooting "could be a case of self-defense."

The woman and her grandson were taken to police headquarters to be questioned.

McManus said police have been called to the home three times before for domestic violence calls.
