SAN ANTONIO - Devin Patrick Kelley was terminated from his job at the popular Texas water park Schlitterbahn New Braunfels, where he worked as a seasonal unarmed night security guard.
Kelley worked for five and a half weeks this summer before his employment was terminated.
“We, like the rest of our community, were horrified to learn of the tragedy in Sutherland Springs at the First Baptist Church. We are keeping everyone impacted by this malicious act in our thoughts and our prayers,” Schlitterbahn officials posted in a statement released Monday.
Security guards for Schlitterbahn must pass a background check before beginning employment.
Kelley passed the Texas Department of Public Safety background check prior to beginning work at the water park.
His military record of domestic violence and discharge were not on the background check Schlitterbahn received from the Texas DPS.
The Sutherland Springs shooting is the worst shooting at a place of worship in U.S. history.
