The family of an Instagram influencer who was killed at her Richmond home over the weekend says she died at the hands of a stalker.

Janae Gagnier, otherwise known to her 2.7 million Instagram followers as “Miss Mercedes Moor,” died of strangulation and traumatic concussion, the Fort Bend County Medical Examiner’s Office told KPRC, KSAT’s sister station in Houston.

Richmond police said Gagnier, 33, and her alleged killer, Kevin Alexander Accorto, 34, were found dead late Sunday afternoon at her home in the Cortland Apartments at 5200 Pointe West Circle.

Accorto, who had traveled from Florida, died of multiple sharp force injuries.

Gagnier’s father told KPRC that he discovered their bodies. He couldn’t get her to answer her phone, he said, so he had to kick in the door.

“I walk in and Janae’s on the floor, and her clothes are all torn up and stuff,” Mark Gagnier said. “I go upstairs, guy’s upstairs with a knife in him, still alive. I just couldn’t do (anything) but stand there and call the police.“

“That’s the true story and that’s what I want out.”

Police said it was a murder-suicide, but the investigation into the motive is ongoing. Investigators said they do not believe Gagnier and Accorto were in a relationship.

The woman’s parents believed she was killed by a stalker.

“She’s very cautious about her surroundings,” her mother, Jeanetta Grover, said. “Unfortunately, someone basically was stalking, and killed my baby.”
