'White Lives Matter' rally to be held at Texas A&M on 9/11

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Hours after a deadly clash between white nationalists and counter protesters in Charlottesville, Virginia, a political activist announced he will hold a White Lives Matter rally at Texas A&M University on September 11.

Preston Wiginton said his rally "will continue the flow and growth of the Alt Right message," following the Unite the Right event that spurred the declaration of a state emergency in Virginia.

Wiginton said the event paperwork had been filed and approved by the university for about two weeks, but saw Saturday as an "opportune moment" to announce the rally.

A release said the rally will feature appearances and speakers from several "who are concerned with the political status of whites in America," including Ken Reed of the Houston-based White Lives Matter group and Sacco Vandal, a self-proclaimed American Nationalist.

"The key purpose of the event is to protest the liberal agenda of white guilt and white genocide that is taught at most all universities in America," according to a release for the event.

Wiginton invited counter protesters to the rally "to discuss the issues of the day in racial and identity conflict."

Wiginton said the event will be held at Rudder Fountain between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m..

The Black Student Alliance Council issued a statement Saturday condemning the event. The group asked other students to stand against the event.

"This is our community and it's time to protect it against people who try to separate us by fear, ignorance and hate," the statement said.

Adam Key and Michael Buse organized a counter protest on Facebook titled #BTHOHate - a protest against white lives matter.

"This tone-deaf rally is positively contrary to our values as a campus and serves only to harass our fellow Aggies of colour," the description of the event said. "As such it is imperative that we take action and display pride in our diverse campus and community... We hope to bring even more people outside to unite around the idea that hate, bigotry, and racism have no place on our campus.
