SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Tricentennial Commission and the University of Texas at San Antonio’s Institute of Texan Cultures are partnering to offer "summer school" for educators.
The program is called the San Antonio Tricentennial Summer Institute and the goal is to reintroduce the city’s history to teachers in preparation for next year's celebration of 300 years since the city was founded.
"The educators preparing for the upcoming academic year can connect to a young person, whether you're in kindergarten to a sophomore in high school, to what it means to live in a city, celebrating its 300-year milestone," said Edward Benavides, CEO of the Tricentennial Commission.

More than 250 educators are attending the weeklong training workshop.
"History and education plays an important facet of the tricentennial," Benavides said. "Working with the institute of Texan Cultures and UTSA, we're able to provide an opportunity to really share all of the cultural assets that we have in San Antonio."tricentennial," Benavides said. The teachers will incorporate what they've learned into their curriculum that will reach students from grades pre-kindergarten to 12th grade starting this fall.

"They're going to spend a week learning about San Antonio and different aspects of it, so they're going to take some interesting stories back to their classroom," said Bexar County Judge Nelson Wolff.
Wolff also said they are hoping to open up the first section of the San Pedro Creek Project in 2018 from Fox Tech to Houston Street, which will also tell the story of San Antonio.
