HOUSTON – The Houston Astros on Wednesday signed Alamo Heights standout pitcher Forrest Whitley to a contract.
Terms of Whitley's contract were not disclosed.

The Astros used their 17th overall pick in the first round of the draft Wednesday to select the 18-year-old right-handed pitcher.
Whitley posted a 9-1 record during his senior season at Alamo Heights. He struck out 126 batters in 86 innings.
The 6-foot-7 pitcher was named to the Rawlings-Perfect Game 1st Team All-America and Texas All-Region 1st Team after his final high school season.
The pitcher was introduced to the media in Houston at noon Wednesday.
