Mexican national soccer team to begin road to 2018 FIFA World Cup at Alamodome

San Antonio to host Mexico for fifth time on Jan. 31, 2018

SAN ANTONIO – The road to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia for the Mexican national soccer team will begin in San Antonio at the Alamodome on Jan. 31, 2018. 

On Tuesday, the Mexican national soccer team announced in translation that the “first duel of 2018 will be in the Alamodome” on their official Twitter page for the kick-off game of its 16th annual U.S. Tour.

San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg also shared the big announcement in a video posted to the Alamodome’s official Facebook page.

“We’re excited to continue to grow San Antonio’s soccer resume, and welcome the wildly popular Mexican men’s team and their enthusiastic fans to our beautiful city,” Mayor Nirenberg said in the video.

The world cup warm-up match in January 2018 will mark the fifth time Mexico plays at the Alamodome, with the last match being played in July 2017 as part of the CONCACAF Gold Cup when they defeated Curacao 2-0 in a group round match.
