More than 2,000 people gathered at the Henry B. González Convention Center for the announcement of the organization’s initiative, “Public Money for Public Good.”
Proposition B opponents have filed an ethics complaint with the City of San Antonio, alleging some city council members have used town hall-style meetings to push a pro-Spurs arena viewpoint ahead of the Nov. 4 election.
Proposition B will ask whether to use the county’s existing venue tax on hotel stays and short-term car rentals to help fund up to $311 million of a new arena’s construction. It would also raise the hotel tax of the tax from 1.75% to 2%. The short-term car rental tax would stay flat at 5%.
COPS/Metro gathered on the steps of City Hall on Friday to protest Proposition B, a measure that would allocate Bexar County dollars to help pay for a new Spurs arena if voters approve it in the Nov. 4 election.
