Young musicians get boost from Harlingen Concert Association
Thanks to some much-needed scholarship dollars from the Harlingen Concert Association, three 2021 graduates from the Harlingen school district can pursue degrees in music. “I feel excited and very glad for this opportunity,” said Victoria Rivera, a trumpet player from Harlingen High School who plans to study music education at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. She and fellow musicians Ethan Gonzalez and Roman Hernandez gathered Tuesday at the Harlingen school district Administration Building to receive the scholarships from the Harlingen Concert Association. “This is the first time we are offering this scholarship,” he said, “so the board is really excited about it. “I was very surprised,” said Roman, 18, a trombone player who just graduated from Harlingen High School.
