Rocky, the adorable owl found in NYC Rockefeller tree, is featured in new children’s book

Remember that adorable little owl that was found in the Christmas tree being used to light up Rockefeller Center? If you somehow missed one of the best nuggets of good news to happen this year, a tiny owl was discovered inside the New York City tree, right around Thanksgiving time. Rocky, the owl found in the Rockefeller Christmas tree, has been returned to the wild -- Read full story. The owl, named Rocky, was nursed back to health, and she was eventually set back free into the wild by Ravensbeard Wildlife Center. In fact, she loved Rocky’s story so much that she decided to write a children’s book about the celebrity owl.

9-year-old boy celebrates his birthday with a canned food drive instead of a party

One child in particular really stood out: A boy who decided he wanted to give back to the community for his 9th birthday. Erica Gamboa said her son, Mason, wanted to use his birthday this year to help out locally. That’s when the idea of a canned food drive came in. “We were able to collect $485, and also a lot of canned goods,” Gamboa said. The canned goods Mason collected on his birthday.

Why you’re seeing teddy bears and rainbows in windows right now

SAN ANTONIO – If you’ve been on a walk in your neighborhood this week, you may have noticed an odd phenomenon -- there are teddy bears and pictures of rainbows in the front windows of some homes. If you’re wondering why that is, there’s a very good explanation. Parents are spreading the word over social media, asking people to place stuffed bears and rainbows in the windows to create a social-distancing-approved scavenger hunt. The teddy bears idea was inspired by a popular book and song for preschoolers called “We’re Going On a Bear Hunt.”Both the song and book start out:“We’re going on a bear hunt. RELATED: Things to do at home while you’re social distancingMy neighborhood is asking families to put a teddy bear in the window so families can go on a walk for a “Bear Hunt”.
