A Texas man who was the first rioter to go on trial for the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol has been resentenced on Friday to nearly seven years in prison.

Prosecutors are saying at the opening of the most serious case to reach trial in the attack on the U.S. Capitol that the founder of the Oath Keepers extremist group and four associates planned for an “armed rebellion” to stop the transfer of presidential power.

Jurors have heard attorneys' opening statements in the first trial for one of the hundreds of people charged with storming the U.S. Capitol last year.
