Hiroshima is marking the 80th anniversary of the U.S. atomic bombing of the western Japanese city.

The Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to Nihon Hidankyo, a Japanese organization of survivors of the U.S. atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, for its activism against nuclear weapons.

Hiroshima and Pearl Harbor, two symbols of World War II animosity between Japan and the United States, are now promoting peace and friendship through a sister park arrangement.

Hiroshima has marked the 76th anniversary of the world’s first atomic bombing, with the mayor of the Japanese city urging global leaders to unite to eliminate nuclear weapons, just as they are united against the coronavirus.
