Senior-laden Hurricanes edge Rockets to keep playoffs in sight

With contributions from each of their six seniors, the Hurricanes were able to hold off the Rockets for a 51-48 win at Sam Houston. Republicans are vowing they will not send the broader bill to Trump if it includes language requiring bases named after Confederate officers to be renamed. “It's Senate language that we want to agree to," said House Armed Services Committee Chairman Adam Smith, D-Wash. “So there shouldn't be controversy here." “Look, the defense bill is really important," Smith said, expressing hope that Republicans would relent. Both the House and Senate defense measures passed by veto-proof margins but GOP leaders want to avoid the chances of a veto coming to pass. The Associated Press erroneously reported that failure to pass the legislation could hold up a pay raise for the military.

Lanier improves to 2-0 for the season after defeating Kennedy

Two scoring passes from Fabian Maciel were all the Lanier Voks needed as they held on to beat the Kennedy Rockets 14-2 on Nov. 13 at Edgewood Veterans Stadium. They stopped several Kennedy potential scoring drives in the second half as the Rockets came up empty in four trips inside the Lanier 25-yard line. Kennedy drove to the Voks’ 10, but couldn’t capitalize as Lanier stopped Kennedy running back Randy Contreres for no gain on fourth down. An interception by Lanier’s Guerra, who also plays defensive back, near the goal line put another stop to a potential Kennedy scoring drive late in the fourth quarter. We’re playing a few guys out of position on the line and it shows.”Against Lanier, Kennedy had a better showing than in their first two games of the season.

I think we can be really, really good.”In Game 2, a kill from Gelisa Thomas gave Sam Houston a 7-2 lead. “I try to tell them they always need to work on something, no matter how the game’s going,” said Hughes, a 2003 Sam Houston grad.
