Family, friends, and the community gathered at the Tech Port Arena Sunday to honor the longtime local radio broadcaster Russell Rush.

Family, friends and members of the community held a homegoing service for 109-year-old Gertha Murphy Saturday at Mt. Zion First Baptist Church in San Antonio.

Edinburg city officials will be hosting an event they’re calling a Ceremony of Remembrance in honor of an Edinburg native who served aboard the USS Indianapolis during World War II. After over seven decades of being declared “Unaccounted For,” SC3 Jose Antonio Saenz was officially declared “Buried at Sea” in June. The ceremony to honor Saenz will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Edinburg City Hall, located at 415 W. University Drive in Edinburg. The ceremony comes on the 77th commemoration of July 30, 1945, the day the Indianapolis sank. Saenz was among the nearly 1,200 men on board the Indianapolis, whose last mission was to deliver atomic bomb components.

It comes after Buckingham Palace said the Queen had cancelled her traditional festive break at Sandringham.

People can hold public remembrance ceremonies together once more, after last year's lockdown disruptions.

The Queen will not undertake official visits during this time on doctors' advice, Buckingham Palace says.

More than 300 volunteers with the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County honored the 20th anniversary of 9/11 on Friday by building 1,200 Family Emergency Preparedness Starter Kits for local families in support of the September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance (9/11 Day).

January 28th is a Day of Remembrance honoring the lives of the crew and teacher aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger. This marks 35 years since the Challenger disaster. NASA will honor the lives of the astronauts who died in the Challenger explosion 35 years ago with a Day of Remembrance ceremony on Thursday. NASA, in partnership with The Astronauts Memorial Foundation and Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, will host the ceremony at 10 a.m. at the Space Mirror Memorial. Robert Cabana, the director of NASA’s John F. Kennedy Space Center, and Mike Leinbach, a retired space shuttle launch director, are expected to speak at the ceremony.

The Wall of Names honor the 40 people killed in the crash of Flight 93. Both President Donald Trump and Democratic challenger Joe Biden will commemorate the 19th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks in rural Pennsylvania where one of the hijacked planes crashed in a field. Vice President Mike Pence and his wife, Karen, will attend Sept. 11 memorial ceremonies in New York this year. The 2,200-acre Flight 93 National Memorial marks the spot in rural Pennsylvania where the hijacked flight crashed, killing all 40 people on board. It's the second time Trump will mark Sept. 11 with a visit to the site.
