The Texas Cavaliers announced the finalists and grand prize winner of the 2023 River Parade Art Contest last Wednesday.

Celebrating National Crafting Month, a little night music + Fiesta fun!

More than 90 local, regional and national authors are scheduled to attend the 2022 Book Festival in San Antonio including Julia Glass, Sandra Cisneros, Jericho Brown, Margo Jefferson, Natalie Diaz, Emma Straub and more.

The Texas Cavaliers partnered with the Southwest School of Art for the contest that invited students in first through fifth grades to submit their interpretation of this year’s River Parade theme of “Texas Al Fresco.”

The University of Texas at San Antonio and the Southwest School of Art will combine their art programs at the SSA campus downtown.

SAN ANTONIO – The Southwest School of Art in total has 4,000 students at the college level, along with adults in continuing education and youth in art programs. It’s also known as a beautiful event space, but the pandemic has been tumultuous to its financial situation. “Almost all of our income, both contributed and earned income through tuition, rentals and all the other revenue streams, it just dried up immediately,” Paula Owen, President of the Southwest School of Art said. The pandemic forced faculty and students to learn in different ways. I think everyone knows that intuitively, but I don’t think they remember that through the pandemic that arts and artists are suffering.
