Bicyclist hospitalized after West Side hit-and-run crash

Crash occurred just before midnight near Brady Blvd., Driftwood St.

SAN ANTONIO – A bicyclist was taken to an area hospital following a hit-and-run crash overnight, San Antonio police said Monday.

The crash occurred just before midnight Sunday at the intersection of Brady Boulevard and Driftwood Street, not far from South Zarzamora Street on the city's West Side.

According to police, the bicyclist, a man in his 30s, was traveling westbound on Brady Boulevard when he was hit by a vehicle as he crossed the intersection.

The driver of the vehicle did not stop to render aid. Police said the intersection is a four-way stop and it appears that both the bicyclist and the vehicle may have disregarded the stop sign.

The injured man was taken to University Hospital in stable condition with a wound to his left side and a lacerated spleen. He was not wearing a helmet or safety gear and the bicycle did not have lights or reflectors, police said.

The San Antonio Police Department and EMS crews both answered the call.

Police said when located, the driver of the vehicle will face a charge of failing to stop and render aid.

The investigation is ongoing.
