SAN ANTONIO – An overturned 18-wheeler blocked a portion of Interstate 10 eastbound near Loop 1604 on the city’s far East Side early Friday morning.
The crash happened just after 8 a.m.
According to police, a big rig carrying plastic shelves was cut off by a sport utility vehicle. That’s when, police say, the 18-wheeler pulled to the right and some of the wheels went off the highway, hitting a pickup truck and resulting in the big rig rolling over.
Police said a passenger inside the pickup truck went to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No one else was hurt.
The driver of the SUV who caused the crash did not stop and kept driving, police said.
The main lanes of the eastbound highway will be closed until Friday afternoon, because the big rig leaked fuel and oil onto the road.
The traffic forced off the highway has since begun to move after previously being at a standstill.
