Two Very Different Stories About This Austin Shooting

Wilber Pérez says he was delivering DoorDash in North Austin when a car sideswiped him. He thought it was an aggressive driver, then realized it was ICE, and says he was rammed again as he tried to pull over before an agent got out and started shooting. A bullet is still in his back; doctors said it was too close to his spine to remove. Four hours later, he says, ICE took him from the hospital to the Pearsall detention center, where he arrived around 4 a.m. still bleeding and with no pain medication. His attorney says he entered legally on CBP One in 2024, had a work permit, no criminal history and was seeking asylum, and missed a court hearing because the notice went to his old address.
