Volunteers remove 43,000 pounds of trash from Elm Cove Pond

A half-acre lot backing up to homes in northeast Bexar County had turned into what River Aid San Antonio called a "lasagna layer" of garbage. From mattresses to a barbecue pit, even a couch. Neighbors complained for years, but the county couldn't track down the property owner, and the cleanup quote came in at $100,000, more than half of the entire county abatement budget.  So far, in four cleanup events, River Aid has removed 43,000 pounds of trash.  If you want to help, one more cleanup is set for Saturday, Nov. 7, from 9 a.m. to noon at 7715 Elm Cove Drive.
