Airbnb connecting displaced residents with places to stay during Harvey

Disaster Response Program helping storm evacuees through Sept 1

SAN ANTONIO – Airbnb is connecting local residents who have been displaced -- as well as emergency relief workers and volunteers who are coming in to assist -- find temporary accommodations with hosts who are opening their homes free of charge.

Airbnb's Disaster Response Program has been activated in San Antonio, Austin, and Dallas and surrounding areas to help storm evacuees from now through Sept. 1.

The concept began back in 2012 in the wake of Hurricane Sandy and has since grown.

Those interested in offering accommodations or looking for a place to stay can click here.

"We encourage hosts in safe, inland areas to aid in this effort by listing their available rooms or homes on the platform to help the growing number of evacuees," Kellie Bentz, Head of Global Disaster Response and Relief for Airbnb said. "Our thoughts continue to be with everyone in the path of the storm, and we thank the dedicated government and emergency response personnel who are keeping our communities safe."
