BERLIN – Meng Meng, a panda at Zoo Berlin, has a habit of walking backward and it has zookeepers concerned.

The 4-year-old panda is in puberty and, as teenagers often are, she’s hormonal. Her handlers are hoping sex is the cure.

Zookeepers are hoping Meng Meng will take her angst out during mating season with a panda named Jiao Qing.

“Giant male and female pandas in captivity are kept apart except during mating season,” Zoo Berlin director Andreas Knieriem told the Berliner Zeitung newspaper on Sunday, according to Huffingtonpost.com.

Jiao Qing is three years older than Meng Meng but “Meng Meng will have reached sexual maturity and could focus all her energy on seducing her partner,” Knieriem continued.

We’ll have to wait and see if sex is the cure for Meng Meng’s peculiar backward walk. Mating season for pandas is February to May.
