SAN ANTONIO – The San Antonio Police Department is getting ready to go pink.
For the month of October, officers in the department will be allowed to buy pink patches and a pink undershirt to wear in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Chief William McManus said all proceeds will then go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Officers are also hoping it will serve as a reminder to women in the community.
"I also think it's a great idea to reach out to those who haven't had their breast examination. Every year, women fail to do so and they don't know the importance until it's too late,” Sgt. Michelle Ramos said. “So I think it's a great opportunity for women. You know, if it takes us wearing this patch and one person saying, ‘You know, I haven't had my annual exam. Let me go get that done.’"
This change in police uniforms will start on Oct. 1 and end at the end of the month.
